Ecumenical Alliance Launches Brazilian Chapter
On March 24th, Action by Churches Together (ACT) launched its Brazilian chapter in the city of Porto Alegre, Brazil, with a presentation of its purposes. Representatives of churches, social movements, the Latin American Council of Churches (CLAI) and ecumenical organisations attended the event. Testimonies were shared by ACT members and Mara Luz, Christian Aid Brazil Manager emphasised the importance of increasing efforts to overcome poverty, inequality and human rights violations around the world. The Rev. Walter Altmann, (Moderator of the World Council of Churches Central Committee) and the Rev. Canon Francisco de Assis da Silva (Secretary General of the IEAB), closed the activity remembering Don Oscar Romero, who was murdered thirty years ago because of his unconditional defense of the poor and oppressed in Latin America.
ACT is a global alliance of churches and related agencies working to save lives and support communities in emergencies worldwide.
